Our history

esure group is a UK focused personal lines insurer founded in 2000 by Sir Peter Wood, the foremost general insurance entrepreneur in the UK who launched Direct Line in 1984. We offer a range of insurance products including car, home, and travel insurance. Our insurance brands include esure and Sheila's Wheels. Through our insurance brands we provide cover for around two million customers.

Our mission is simple: we aim to make esure a great place to work for our people and provide the very best service to our customers.

Our business today

Although well-established, we have retained the culture of a start up business in many ways. Our structure is lean and flat and our senior management team is accessible and approachable. Doors are left open. With over 1,600 colleagues across 3 sites there is a real drive across our company to succeed, both at a business and an individual level. Personal development is encouraged at esure and ideas count.

We also believe in having fun whilst giving something back and our people are encouraged to get involved and support local and national good causes. Some of the events we are proud of from the last year include charity collections for the Christie, MacMillan cancer support, Comic Relief, Children in Need and other local charities elected by our people.

esure was one of the UK’s fastest growing car insurers in its early years partly thanks to the unforgettable Calm Down, Dear advertising. As the brand became more established and the insurance market moved forward, esure’s brand developed to compete strongly in the price comparison world by using the quality of its cover, service and additional product benefits to strike a difference.

Having been awarded a 5-star rating with Defaqto for its Home and Motor insurance and with its association with ground-breaking campaigns such as the Safe Drive, Stay Alive education events for young drivers, esure has enhanced its stand-out in a highly competitive market place.

 

 

Sheilas’ Wheels

 

Sheilas’ Wheels launched in October 2005, offering car insurance designed with women in mind. Since then, the Sheilas’ Wheels brand has gone from strength to strength with its catchy jingle and iconic pink, sequin-clad Sheilas. Sheilas' Wheels offers not only car insurance, but home insurance and travel too - as well as ‘female-friendly’ car repairers who receive additional guidelines and advice to be more receptive to women’s needs.
